New York Rangers 2013 third round draft pick Pavel Buchnevich scored a pair of power play goals to lead KHL squad Severstal Cherepovets to their first regulation win in five tries earlier today. They were Buchnevich’s first two goals of the season and the second and third of his young KHL career. Video of both goals is below (Buchnevich is #89 in black).
Goal number one (at 1:08) shows some grit in front of the net:
Goal number two reveals a knack for finding open ice and a quick release:
Buchnevich’s first goal gave Severstal a 2-1 lead mid way through the first period. The 18-year old forward then made it 3-1 17 seconds into the middle frame. Severstal added a shorthanded insurance goal with just over six minutes remaining in the game before former Blue Jacket Jeff Platt drew Dinamo Minsk within 2 with 11 seconds left for a 4-2 final.
In five games so far this season the Rangers’ 75th overall pick has put 20 shots on goal while averaging 13:08 in ice time per game.
