New York Rangers forward Artem Anisimov will join the Russian National Team when it travels to Germany tomorrow for the 2010 IIHF World Hockey Championship. The 21-year old rookie escaped the final round of cuts on Thursday and is included on the 25-player preliminary roster that will make the trip. The final, 23-man roster that will open the tournament will be announced on Friday. The two extra players will remain with the team and can be added to the roster once the opening round of the tournament concludes. Russia could also add two players not included on this roster (Pavel Datsyuk, for example) should they become available.
The games get underway on Friday with a game between the United States and host Germany in front of an anticipated crowd of more than 76,000 at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, home of the football team Schalke 04. Russia begins its quest for a third consecutive World Championship gold on Sunday against Slovakia.
