New York Rangers 2006 third round pick Ryan Hillier has been reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack from Charlotte of the ECHL.  The 21-year old second year pro has been with the Checkers since September 28th, when he was one of the final cuts from the Wolf Pack’s training camp.

In the lone regular season game for the Checkers so far this season Hillier was scoreless with two shots. He had two assists, three shots and finished a +3 in a single preseason game for the Checkers.

Last season Hillier played 66 games for Charlotte, picking up 10 goals and 16 points for 26 points, while adding 26 penalty minutes.  Prior to turning pro, the 6-1, 195-pound Halifax native registered 86 goals and 104 assists for 190 points in 229 games over four seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.

There’s no word on whether a forward was injured over the weekend, or whether Hillier’s presence is meant to serve as a wake up call for a Hartford forward corps that’s looked like at times like it was simply going throught the motions.

Funny how there was no room for Zaborsky less than a week earlier, guess there’s only room for certain people.

Which is a shame because having seen them both play I have to say that in my opinion Zaborsky has far more upside than Hillier.

Having said that I will not be upset if Hillier is up to replace someone like Rissmiller or Arnason, I’d rather have the pack lose through lack of skill than lack of effort.

Yeah I was thinking about that too… I think Zaborsky deserved the nod definitely, but on the other hand I’m excited to see Hillier get a shot, someone I’ve been following since his Halifax days (thanks to Jess of course)
