Earlier today the Russian Hockey Federation released a list of 38 players who have been invited to participate in Team Russia’s Olympic camp later this month. The New York Rangers are not represented on the list of invitees — not even (likely) soon-to-be ex-Ranger Nikolai Zherdev made the cut. Former Rangers’ defensemen Fedor Tyutin, Maxim Kondratiev, Dmitri Kalinin and Sergei Zubov did, however, as did Zubov’s 1994 Stanley Cup compatriot Alexei Kovalev.

Not surprisingly, Salavat Yulaev Ufa, which is coached by national team bench boss Vyacheslav Bykov, features highly on the list, with eight invitees. The Washington Capitals lead the way for NHL clubs, with three representatives.  All told, only 17 of the 38 players invited are currently signed with NHL teams, though the majority of those players are likely to make the final cut when the roster for the 2010 games in Vancouver is announced early next year.

The Russian Olympic camp will take place August 29th through September 1st in Moscow.
