Jaromir Jagr scored Avangard Omsk’s first goal and fed Jakub Klepis for the overtime winner as the Hawks moved to within one game of upsetting the KHL’s top team with a 3-2 overtime victory against Salavat Yulaev Ufa in Omsk on Wednesday. Avangard scored two goals, 56 seconds apart, starting with Jagr’s first of the playoffs at 15:18 of the third period, only to have their spirits crushed when Salavat Yulaev tied the score at two with only eight seconds remaining in regulation. Undeterred, the Hawks soldiered on, until 5:24 into the ten minute overtime period when Klepis threw a shot on goal from just inside the blue line that fooled Salavat Yulaev goalie Alexander Eremenko. Avangard will get its first of two opportunities to do the unthinkable tomorrow at 8:00 AM EST.
