Avangard Even Series with Shootout Win

Avangard Omsk held Salavat Yulaev Ufa at bay through sixty minutes of regulation and another ten minutes of overtime before besting the KHL’s highest scoring team 2-1 in the shootout to tie their first round playoff series at one apiece.  Third-string goaltender Evgeni Tsaregorodtsev lead the way for Avangard, stopping 38 shots, and Czech native and former Washington Capital Jakub Klepis scored twice in the shootout to send the series back to Omsk for games three and fourJaromir Jagr missed a portion of the third period when his back seized up while he was serving an interference minor, but was able to return a short while later to finish the game with five shots in 16:29 of play.

Elsewhere, Alexei Yashin scored the first goal of the game as Lokomotiv Yaroslavl roared back to even their series against Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk with a 5-1 win; Atlant Mytishchi and Ray Emery took a 2-0 series lead over Traktor Chelyabinsk, 5-1; and Karel Rachunek tallied a goal and an assist as Dynamo Moscow trounced Dinamo Riga, with Marcel Hossa scoring the Latvian’s only goal.
