Avery Roundtable
Tuesday February 17th 2009, 8:04 am

Yesterday yours truly participated in a roundtable discussion of Sean Avery and the effect his potential return might have on the struggling Blueshirts for the fantabulous Puck Daddy blog at Yahoo! Sports.  Head on over for my take on The Grate One’s potential return, as well as that of some of the top Rangers’ writers on the web, including Dubi Silverstein of Blueshirt Bulletin, Joey McDonald of NY Sports Day, Scotty Hockey, Patrick Hoffman of Kukla’s Korner, The Dark Ranger, and 5-hole.com’s Eric Roitman.

I read that piece yesterday and agreed with most of the assessment except for one huge detail – no one mentioned what effect having avery’s salary on hand will have on the rangers’ ability to resign impending rfas and ufas on the team. a lot of kids are due for raises this year and next…

It certainly will be interesting to see what kind of rabbit Sather pulls out of his hat this summer. Avery or no Avery, re-signing everyone with the limited cap room he’s left himself is going to be difficult. On the other hand, with everyone except Zherdev underperforming, not many of them will be justified in asking for too big a raise…

P.S. I got Artem’s answers over the weekend and hope to finish translating them tonight. ;)

oh that’s awesome! i can’t wait to see what he’s got to say! i hope you added another question to see what he thought of MSG and on a night like graves night…
honestly i think zherdev will probably warrant a contract extension but i think the team might have to just qualify a few people like dubinsky and callahan just to keep themselves within the cap. it absolutely shocks me how poorly we are operating within the cap… remember all that talk about how we’ve got the best “cap-ologist” in the league with cam hope? he muist have been out of town when they started handing out 6 year 39 million dollar contracts…
