Psyche! Fleming Not Fired, Just Benched
Monday January 12th 2009, 7:30 am

In case you haven’t heard by now, Wayne Fleming was not, in fact, fired from his post as head coach of Avangard Omsk. It seems he was merely “benched” for the third period of Thursday’s game against Vityaz Chekov. (And people criticize the Tampa Bay Lightning management for being dysfunctional?) The situation was cleared up in a meeting with Avangard general manager Anatoli Bardin on Saturday and the team’s captains assured Fleming that they wanted him to stay, so he’ll be back behind the bench on Wednesday when Avangard faces Atlant Mytishchi. See ESPN.com’s article for more.

In a game where the scenery was more breathtaking than the action on the ice, Team Jagr defeated Team Yashin”in the inaugural KHL All Star Game held in Red Square on Saturday. The final score was 7-6. Former Ranger Marcel Hossa lead the way for Team Jagr with a hat trick. Head back to ESPN.com for more on the game, or check out photos from the game, skills competition and post-game press conference at Championat.ru. If you missed it, you can see a replay of the game at the Universal Sports web site.

Once again, props to reader Ruthe for the heads up on the Fleming article.
