Now I see why they say there are no flowers left in Omsk. This picture is a beautiful tribute to him.

Laurie thanks for all the updates. I’m still in disbelief days later; my biggest regret is that he never made it to America, not just selfishly so I could have seen him play, but because he wouldn’t have died. Alexei was a couple of months older than me and it’s so unimaginable for me that something like this could happen to a world-class athlete. As sad as it is (and I’ve been wiping away tears for days without ever having even met him), we should commend Alexei on a great life; he was clearly beloved by thousands of people and I’m very glad that in his last days he was named to the preliminary Russian Olympic team so his dream was fulfilled. Rest in Peace Alexei, I’ll never forget you.

this is just absolutely brutal. laurie i appreciate you continuing your coverage of an event which must be harder for you than most of us… you were able to follow his career closer than most people this side of the world i think.
i can’t imagine what artem anisimov is going through right now either… has hartford played since this happened?
