On August 19th Ranger prospect Alexei Cherepanov will leave Omsk to join the Russian junior team as they begin preparing for their first tournament of the season, which will take place in the Czech Republic from August 26-28 between the junior teams of Russia, Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland. Once again the team will be coached by former New York Ranger Sergei Nemchinov. Thirty-five players have been invited to the camp, including 4 goalies, 13 defenseman and 18 forwards. Cherepanov will be joined by Omsk teammate Egor Averin as well as 2008 draft picks Kiril Petrov (NY Islanders), Maxim Trunev (Montreal Canadiens), and Alexander Pechursky (Pittsburgh Penguins). Rangers 2008 3rd round pick Evgeni Grachev, who has decided to play in North America this season, has not been invited, though that doesn’t preclude him from participating in the World Junior Championships later this year.
