Cherepanov Scores as Omsk Wins Without Jagr
Sunday August 17th 2008, 10:30 am

With Jaromir Jagr in the Czech Republic to participate in a pair of Team Jagr charity games, Avangard Omsk had little trouble handling former Vysshaya Liga (Russian 2nd Division) team Barys Astana today in Omsk. It was the first ever meeting between the two teams, who’ll face each other twice in the upcoming KHL season. Omsk won the game 5-1 while Barys piled up 59 penalty minutes to Omsk’s 22. Alexei Cherepanov picked up an assist on the 4th Omsk goal, and scored the final goal of the game, his 5th goal in as many pre-season games. The two teams will face off again on Tuesday, August 19, when Omsk will be without the services of both Jagr and Cherepanov, who’ll join the Russian junior team as they prepare for the Four Nations tournament in the Czech Republic from August 26-28.
