Black vs. White
Saturday August 02nd 2008, 2:21 pm

Jaromir Jagr and his Avangard teammates were spared the trouble of running in the the 19th annual Siberian International Marathon today when team management opted instead to capitalize on the buzz generated by Jagr’s arrival by holding their traditional end-of-camp inter-squad game on a Saturday afternoon and making it open to the public, free of charge. Five thousand fans filled Arena Omsk to see the Black team, led by Jagr, play the White team, featuring Ranger prospect Alexei Cherepanov. On this day, youth triumphed as Cherepanov’s team, lead by linemate Anton Kuryanov’s 2 goals, routed the boys in black, 6-1. A lone late goal by Jagr was all that got in the way a White team shut out.
